This week's sketchbook assignment: Rousseau: Jungle

Henri Rousseau (1844-1910) was a French Post-Impressionist painter in the Primitive style (meaning he did paintings of indigenous people and animals in their native surroundings). Despite being ridiculed during his lifetime by art critics, he became to be recognized as a self-taught genius whose works are of high artistic quality.

This week's sketchbook assignment: Size Relationship

1. Choose TWO objects which have a relationship to one another but are NOT the same size at all (like the front door and the key; or an apple and the fridge; or a bug and a plant).

2. Draw the two different sized objects as if their sizes have been switched or they are the same size - the key is now as big as the front door; the apple is so big it fills the inside of the fridge; the bug is now larger than the plant.

3. Color picture in using any materials you'd like.

Be inventive! Think up your own two related objects (or use one of my examples) and observe & draw their details carefully.
